At the beginning of December I made my way back to España for a weekend trip in Madrid.
I met up with Rachel, a friend from Oklahoma, (yes, an Okie) who is also an Au Pair. I only had a few days in the city, but I got to see a lot.
It was a sunny day when I hopped off the metro and saw the city center for the first time.
Since the weather was nice, everyone was out and about. One of my favorite spots was Buen Retiro Park. It’s the city’s biggest park (it’s huge) and it actually used to belong to the Spanish Royals before becoming a public park. There’s even a lake in the park, which was full of paddle boaters. We enjoyed the nice view with some sangria at a nearby cafe.
I also had the chance to try a Spanish staple- paella. It’s a traditional Spanish rice dish, and it was delicious. Of course I also had a few tapas throughout the weekend.

During the weekend I even spoke a little German! Yes, I’m being serious. Rachel introduced me to a few friends from her class, and they just so happened to be German.
It was a short, but relaxing trip with lots of girl talk (obviously). Glad I was able to catch up with Rachel.
Adíos, Madrid!
